Legion Post #238 of Teague, Texas will hold a U.S. Flag Retirement Ceremony on
June 14th at the Veterans Remembrance Park. The park is located on North 8th
Avenue in Teague. The time for the retirement ceremony will be 9:00 a.m.
purpose of the ceremony is to properly retire old, torn, or faded U.S. Flag with
dignity and respect. During times past and even today, it has been shown on
television being burned improperly. This is not the proper method of disposing
of the U.S. flag. The Legion would invite all to come out and view the proper
ceremony on June 14th. That date is Flag Day. So please come out and observe the
ceremony and support our local veterans.
If your flag is torn, faded in color
or just plain worn out please bring them to one of the drop locations and the
folks will take care of it for you. Should you wish to have your name included
as giving the flag please leave that with them. We’d appreciate it also if
businesses, clubs, orginizations, etc would leave their name so we could honor
them during the ceremony.
We have set up two locations for you to take your
used flag to be dropped off. These locations are the Teague Public Library
located on the corner of Main Street and 4th Avenue in Teague, and the Gibbs
Memorial Library in Mexia located at 305 E. Rusk Street. Both of these locations
have graciously allowed the Legion to place a plastic tote inside their library
for you to place your flag for the retirement ceremony
Teague Library hours
are Mon – Fri 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon.
Library hours are Mon – Fri 10:00 a.m. – 6: 00 p.m. Saturday 10:00a.m. to 4:00
The flags will be picked up periodically by the Legion with final pick
up scheduled for Friday, June 13th.
Thank you very much,
