New Celebration of the 150th Battle of Mansfield, LA
(sometime in April 2014 - will post date when I have it)

The Valverde Cannon that sits on the courthouse square was part of the Battle of Mansfield.  It was taken from Fairfield by trailer and carried to the Centennial Celebration.  Most of the town and surrounding communities turned out for the grand celebration at the Freestone County courthouse lawn and a large group continued with the procession to battlefield site at Mansfield, Louisiana.  It was probably the biggest event in Freestone County since the last hanging.
