Bill was the third generation of Dillards to live in Dilley, Texas. Bill left Dilley to attend high school in San Antonio at the Texas Military Institute. Graduating in 1947, Bill attended Kemper University for one year before transferring to the University of Texas in Austin where he joined the ROTC program. After graduating in 1951 with a degree in Business Administration, Bill went into the United States Air Force and served two years as a 2nd Lieutenant, serving part of that time in Japan. Before leaving for Japan, Bill married his college sweetheart, Vaudine Beal, on August 31, 1952.
Returning to Dilley in 1953, Bill began to build a business. Taking over his father's Texaco wholesale business and converting to Phillips 66, Bill built a successful career until he retired in the late ‘90s. Bill also managed the Dilley Airpark, where his love of aircraft and flying from his Air Force days led him and his wife, Vaudine, to get their own private pilot licenses. Bill's love for airplanes is reflected in his participation in the Confederate Air Force, an organization dedicated to the restoration of World War II aircraft, as well as his love of building scale model airplanes he proudly displayed in his private office.
Bill also began to build a family. Bill is survived by his loving family complete with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He and Vaudine have two children. Their daughter, Lisa, was born in 1954. She married Thom Hunter in 1976. They currently live in Norman, OK. Bill and Vaudine's son, Ken, was born in 1956. He married Mary Kay Whitley in 1979. They currently live in Cincinnati with their daughter, Sarah, and two sons, Nathan and Kelley.
Bill built a lot of strong friendships and gave a lot to his community. Bill served as Mayor of Dilley and on the Chamber of Commerce. Bill served faithfully through the First Baptist Church in Dilley as a deacon and Bible teacher for adults and youth. His faith was always important to him and he shared this with his family and friends.
