Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Friday, August 22, 2003, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home with Father Frank Fabj, and Father Chris Cox, C.S.C. of South Bend, Indiana. as co-officiants. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday, August 21, 2003, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary and prayer vigil to be held at 6:30 p.m.  Born November 4, 1917, in Cienfuegos, Cuba to Manuel Hartasanchez and Lucila Ros Hartasanchez, Mrs. Pierson operated a day care center in her home for twenty-eight years. Having touched the lives of so many children, she was always thrilled in later years when former attendees would tell her that they credited her with whatever success they had in life. Carlota was very active in the Galveston County A&M Mother's Club during the early 1970’s. As an officer, she was very instrumental in the club's fundraising endeavors as she used her artistic talents to create many items for sale to the Aggie faithful. She also did many hours of volunteer work for the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary. A longtime member of Sacred Heart Parish, and ever a champion of the needy, her favorite charity was "Our Daily Bread" a homeless ministry operated by the Sisters of Charity. Following her retirement in 1979, Carlota sharpened her artistic skills at Galveston College, where she continued to touch lives and make friends. Her oil paintings came to be in great demand by friends and family members. Her artistry was further evidenced by her beautifully landscaped yards. Although no longer able to do the actual work in her later years, she was adept at directing others in doing whatever it took to make her yard the envy of the neighborhood.
Carlota had a great love for music of all types, especially "danzon" a romantic instrumental style that was highly popular during her younger years. Her love for animals, especially dogs, was widely known. It was often said that there was no luckier dog alive than the one that happened to belong to Carlota. The things that she will most be remembered for are the dignity and honor with which she carried herself. Always pleasant to be around, she had a knack for making everyone feel at home around her. Her ever-present wit and keen sense of humor made her a real joy to be around. Known to her family and friends as Carlotica, Tia, Mema, and Mom, she truly was a great lady, friend, aunt, grandmother, and, most of all….Mom. Carlota was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph Pierson; son, Richard Pierson, and her seven siblings. Survivors include a son, Raymond Pierson and wife Joyce of Friendswood; daughter-in-law Linda Dunn of Dickinson; and grandsons Jay Pierson of Dickinson, Brian Pierson of Friendswood, and Kevin Pierson, a student at Texas Tech University.
