Marie G. Kilgore, 89, of Pottsboro died at her home on Thursday, September 17, 2009 after a brief illness.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ally Perry of St. John's Episcopal Church in Pottsboro will officiate and the burial will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.
Marie was born August 19, 1920 in Dorchester, the daughter of Eugene Gravley and Fannie Privette Gravley. She attended school in Dorchester and after graduating from Dorchester High School, she attended Girls Industrial College in Denton (now known as Texas Woman's University). She married Earl Kilgore September 3, 1941 in Durant, Oklahoma and was employed as a bookkeeper for Robert Sanford & Taylor Hardware Company in Sherman from the 1950s until the store closed in the mid-1990s.
Marie was very active until recently, attending a family reunion in Quanah for the 60th time during Labor Day weekend. She was a devoted member and officer of the Women?s V.F.W. Lakeside Auxilliary, enjoyed playing dominoes and crossword puzzles, spending time with her friends, and had a fondness for classical music. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sherman.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Jene Gravley of Irving; and several nieces and nephews. The family would very much like to express their appreciation to her dear friend and caregiver, Joy Miller, for her devoted care in recent years. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1982, her parents, a brother, Charles Gravley and a sister Grayce Greene.
Honorary pallbearers will be grand nephews, Dan Gravley, Ben Gravley and Nick Gravley, nephews, Scott Chitwood and Jeff Chitwood, and nephews-in-law, Andy Miller, Alan Sowerbrower and Tanner Burmeister.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Waldo Funeral Home.
