SHERMAN - Funeral services for Billy Wade McClure will be held at
10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 at Waldo Funeral Home. Rev. Louella Williams of
the Virginia Point United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will
follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with Homer Fraley, Dr. Jack Noble, Herman
Stoner, Charles Byler, Mike Hurley, and Dale Steadman serving as pallbearers.
Mr. McClure passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at Wilson N. Jones Medical
Center at the age of 77.
Bill was born on Sept. 13, 1932 in Millerton, Okla. to the late
Wade and Gertrude (Reid) McClure. During the Korean War, Bill served in
the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. In 1953, Bill and Virginia Latham were married
in Wright City, Okla. Bill received both his bachelor's and master's degrees
from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
He was a lifelong educator, working in several capacities for the
Sherman ISD for more than 34 years. He was a classroom teacher, golf coach,
and assistant principal. Bill was the recipient of the Sherman Ex-Student
Association's Distinguished Teacher Award in 1995. Always an avid golfer,
Bill enjoyed retirement with his many friends on the local golf courses.
He served on the Board of Directors and as a supervisor for the
Texoma Educator's Credit Union and was on the board of the Grayson County
Golf Association. He was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers' Association
and Grayson County Retired Teachers' Association. Mr. McClure was a longtime
member at First Baptist Church of Sherman.
Bill McClure is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia of Sherman;
daughters, Gina Mickelson of Hinton, Okla., and Kim Hardin and her husband
Kevin of Ft. Worth; son, Wade McClure and wife Jade of Pilot Point; grandchildren,
Jason Mickelson of El Reno, Okla., Ashley Hurley and husband Will of Tishomingo,
Okla., Taylor Thomas of Ft. Worth, and Whitley McClure of Pilot Point;
and great-grandchild, Dallas Wade Hurley. He was preceded in death by his
parents and one sister, Dorthyle Flood.
The family will receive friends from 7 -8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 at
