J. D. Reatherford, retired building contractor, died Sunday, Oct.
11, 2009 at Texoma Specialty Care Center in Denison at the age of 91 1/2
years old.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 in the Waldo Funeral
Home Chapel. Rev. Jason Anderson, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Sherman,
will officiate and the burial will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.
J. D. was born April 1, 1918 in the Dixie community north of Whitesboro,
the son of Maggie and A.C. Reatherford. He attended school in Prosper and
Vineygrove and married Kathryn Maxwell on Dec. 22, 1938 in McKinney. They
celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2008. He was a home builder in Sherman
for forty years and was past president of the Home Builders Association.
He also built numerous business buildings in the area, such as the sanctuary
at Trinity Baptist Church where he was a member for several years.
J. D. and Kathryn loved to fish and travel and spent many hours
on Lake Texoma. He was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church where
he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for many years. He will
be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn, a resident of Texoma Specialty
Care Center in Denison; son, Charles Reatherford of Florida; daughter,
Joyce Givens and husband Mike of Denison; five grandchildren, Leslie and
Art Butterworth of Denison, James and Stacey Reatherford of Florida, Roger
and Janet Robertson of Sadler, Marsha and Jason Phillips of Sadler and
Charles Reatherford Jr. of Arizona; also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Reatherford; brothers,
Jack Reatherford and Doris Reatherford; and sisters, Etta Mae Commons and
Noka Lee Cody.
The family will receive friends from 6 -8 p.m. Tuesday at Waldo
Funeral Home.
