Fred Roberts
Son of Lewis Roberts
Fred Roberts, 91 year old retired farmer of Sadler and resident
of Grayson Co. 65 years, died at 6 p.m. Thur. at the home of a niece, Mrs.
Dewey Roberts of Denison, following an illness of several weeks.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sadler Baptist
Church. Burial was in Christian Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Roberts was born at Marshall, Ill., son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis
Roberts and received his education at Clarksville, Ill.
He came to Grayson Co. in 1880, settling one-and-a-half miles east
of Sadler. At that time business houses had not been built in Sadler,
and residents of this community came to Whitesboro once a week for their
mail.
Roads being too muddy for wagon travel, Mr. Roberts walked to Sherman
to secure his marriage license. He and Mary Elizabeth Adams were
married here Feb. 12, 1882.
Surviving are his wife and two nieces, Mrs. Dewey Roberts of Denison
and Mrs. Bill Holley of Sadler. - - - Whitesboro News Record, Friday, November

Sadler - Funeral services will be held
at 2 p.m. Sunday at Sadler Baptist Church for Mrs. Mary E. Roberts, 86,
who died early Saturday morning at the home of a niece, Mrs. S.B. Woods,
Denison. Mrs. Roberts had been ill about nine weeks.
Burial will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Sadler, under the
direction of Funderburk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Roberts was born June 4, 1866, in Grayson County. She
was a member of the church of Christ. Survivors include two nieces,
Mrs. Woods and Mrs. J.W. Hollie, both of Denison. - - - Sherman Democrat,
