Collinsville school boss dead at 53
Collinsville - Raymond C. Adams, 53-year-old superintendent of Collinsville
Independent School District, died Monday at Wilson N. Jones Memorial Hospital
following an apparent heart attack at the school about 2 p.m.
Adams had submitted his resignation to school trustees in January,
citing poor health. It was to take effect at the end of the current
Troy Bratcher, the new superintendent hired by trustees, is scheduled
to begin work in Collinsville July 15. Until Bratcher's arrival,
elementary school principal Owen Roane will serve as acting superintendent.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Huff Funeral Chapel
in Whiteboro, with the Rev. Hugh Newsom of Miller Memorial Baptist Church
Classes will be dismissed all day Thursday in Collinsville to enable
students to attend the funeral services.
Burial will be in Collinsville Cemetery.
Adams was born iN Clarendon, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Adams, and
married Elizabeth Miller on May 21, 1954, in Midway. He earned a
master of science degree from Eastern New Mexico State University and had
been active in coaching for 25 years before coming to Collinsville as superintendent
five years ago.
During the Korean conflict, he served as a staff sergeant in the
U.S. Marin Dorps. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife, of Whitesboro; son, Dickie C. Adams of Whitesboro;
daughters, Kelley B. Adams of Whitesboro and Mrs. Debbie Vineyard of Howe;
mother, Mrs. Bernice Littlefield of Clarendon; brothers, W.G. Adams of
Gloomington, N.M., Billy Bob Adams of Levelland and Donald Adams of Grapevine;
and one granddaughter.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
