Funeral Wednesday for J.D. Walkup
Collinsville - Joseph David Walkup, 65, member of a pioneer
family and resident on one farm in the Ethel community for about half a
century, died at his home at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday after a short illness of
pneumonia and a heart ailment.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the collinsville
Methodist church, with the Rev. A.H. Bates, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in the Collinsville cemetery directed by Talley, Sherman.
Mr. Walkup was born Feb. 14, 1875, in Benton County, Ark., a son
of Mr. and Mrs. William D. Walkup. He was married Aug. 15, 1897,
to Miss Maude Watts of Collinsville. He had been a residentof the
county 51 years.
Survivors include his wife; eight daughters, Mr. O.E. Box of Houston;
Mrs. J.A. Ballard of Dorchester; Mrs. Burt Flowers of Lorenzo; Mrs. Charles
Goodman of Collinsville; Mrs. James Pilcher of Ethel; and Neva Jo, Helen
and Mary Jane Walkup of Ethel; three sons, Roy and Frank Walkup of Ethel
and Robert Walkup of Collinsville; and one brother, William Walkup of Okemah,
Okla. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be George Graham, Jim Pilcher, L. McFarlin, Charles
Goodman, Will Sanders and Lee Saunders.
