GORDONVILLE-Funeral services for Michael E. Simmons, 56, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Meador Funeral Home Chapel in Whitesboro with Rev. Mike Flanagan officiating. Interment will follow in the Collinsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at the funeral home.
Mr. Simmons passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at his home in Gordonville.
Michael E. Simmons was born on September 1, 1952 in Massachusetts to Harold I. and Betty Jane (Trice) Simmons. Michael spent his younger years overseas with his family, while his father was in the military. He graduated from Whitesboro High School in 1971 and married Vickie Jean Redfearn on March 3, 1972 in Whitesboro, Texas. Michael was a founding member and Fire Chief for several years for the Gordonville Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Whitesboro.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie Simmons of Gordonville; a daughter, Shaunda Bateman of Collinsville; a son Shane Simmons and wife Jenny of Dexter; four grandchildren, Carlin, Mattie and Reiley Bateman of Collinsville and Hannah Simmons of Dexter, numerous cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Betty Simmons.
Pallbearers are: Keith Sprinkle, Ray Lynn Stuckey, Larry Price, Doug Adcock, Keith Hughes and Dennis Hawkins.
