Stephenson, Charles C. "Steve"
Collinsville - Charles C. "Steve" Stephenson, 74, died Tuesday,
May 7, 2002 at his home in
Collinsville.
Services were at 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, in Huff Funeral Chapel
in Whitesboro. Officiating was the Rev. Jerry Davis of the First Baptist
Church in Collinsville. Burial followed in Collinsville Cemetery.
He was born on Sept. 30, 1927, in Tyler, Texas, son of the late
Clifford Charles Stephenson and Gladys Broyles Stephenson. He married Erma
Jean Walkup on July 18, 1947, in Houston.
Steve retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 29 years in Finance
and Supply. He was a Chief Warrant Officer 04, and was a member of the
Chief Warrant Officers Association. He retired in 1973.
Steve was a former member of the Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department.
He received the National Defense Service Medal.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Glenda "Gigi" and Gene
Cox of Collinsville; four sisters, Dorothy Robert-son of Hurst; Mary Jo
Gates of Pineville, LA., Jeanie Beggs of Murchison, Texas and Karen McGuire
of Austin; 5 grandchildren, Carolyn Bumgardner, Shannon Conger, Clifford
Roy Stephenson II, Haley Cox and Patrick Cox; and six great-grandchildren.
'Steve was preceded in death by his son, Clifford Roy Stephenson
on May 10, 1992; and wife on Aug. 3, 2000.
