Mother of C.W. Matthews Laid to Rest Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. C.E. Matthews were held in the Richards-Beck
Funeral Chapel at Whitesboro last Friday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by
Rev. C.J. Graves of Sherman. Interment was in the Dixie Cemetery.
She passed away in a Dallas hospital on Wednesday of last week after an
illness of five years.
Mrs. Mary Louella Matthews was born March 27, 1875 in Comanche County,
a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Alexander. She was united
in marriage with Mr. Matthews Nov. 18, 1891, in the Red Branch community
near Whitesboro. She was a member of the Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of Sadler Rt. 1; by three sons, W.
Matthews of Van Alstyne, J. Matthews of Sadler and F. Matthews of Whitesboro;
by three daughters, Mrs. Mamie Batterfield of Denison, Mrs. L.A. Denton
of Sadler and Mrs. S.R. Cro...of Dallas; by one brother, C.E. Alexander
of Sadler; by one sister, Mrs. Walter Deal of Calera, Okla.; by 13 grandchildren,
34 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
