Services for Melvin Walker, 66, Garland and formerly of Van Alstyne were held Oct. 24 in Williams Funeral Home in Garland with burial in Elliott Cemetery near Van Alstyne. He died Oct. 22 in Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
Mr. Walker was born near Gunter, a son of J.C. and Lillie Walker, and married Estelle White on July 3, 1952 in Dallas. He was a member of the Saturn Road Church of Christ in Garland and was a bus driver for the Dallas Transit Co. for 25 years until his retirement in 1980.
Surviving are his wife; stepson, Parker White of Tipton, Okla.; stepdaughter, Virginia Rushing of Garland; sisters, Mae Boyer of Quitman, Minnie Umphress of Gunter, Mildred Achimon of Van Alstyne, Melba Goforth of Mesquite, Monnie Morris of Balch Springs and Marie Dhane of Dallas; and seven grandchildren.
