Funeral Services for Mrs. Mary K. Ayres, mother of T.W. Ayres of
Trenton, were held at the family home three miles northwest of Whitewright,
Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, July 26, by Rev. J.F. Fender of Whitewright,
assisted by Rev. E.B. Jackson of Trenton. Glen Earnheart of Trenton
had charge of the arrangements. Burial was at Everheart cemetery.
A number of friends from Trenton attended the services.
Mrs. Ayres was born April 24, 1846, in Green County, Kentucky.
She came to Texas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Batsell, pioneer
settlers of this section. Her parents, with others, formed a wagon
train and came to Texas about 80 years ago. Their first Texas home
was west of Bells, where they resided for one year. They then moved
to the community northwest of Whitewright, where Mrs. Ayres has resided
since, being the oldest citizen of that community.
She was married to Marcus A. Ayres August 24, 1865. To this
union three sons were born, all of whom survive. They are T.W. Ayres,
Trenton, and J.C. and Jim Ayres of Whitewright. She is also survived
by nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. P. McKenna
of Houston, who is the only surviving member of a family of nine children.
Her husband died October 12, 1914.
Mrs. Ayres was a member of the Central Christian Church.
