More about Nellie Hankins Keenom

Here are more of Frank Bauman's great-grandma Nellie Keenom's quilts.  She lived with her daughter Ethel Mae Brown in her later years, in the 1960s and 1970s when Frank and his brother were also living with their grandparents Browns
often.  He remembers sleeping under many of great-grandma Keenom's quilts in the 1960s as a child.  He said some of the plain, ugly material quilts were made to use as mattress pads to make very old tick mattresses more comfortable.

Sunbonnet girl quilts from a quilt made by Nellie Hankins Keenom, probably in the early to mid 1900s. The quilt was worn out and made into pillows and wall hangings by Natalie Bauman.

Sunbonnet Sue

Sunbonnet Sue below is from a different quilt by Nellie Hankins Keenom
Wall hangings and pillows I made from different Sunbonnet girl quilts from mine and Frank's family that had become very tattered after many years.
