Doc was a member of the First Baptist Church in Savoy. He was an active church deacon for
over 50 years during his life. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1956 with a degree
in Agriculture Education. After graduation he started his long career of teaching. he retired from
Savoy High School in 1981 after 30 years of teaching, but remained active in the community and
his church. In 1955 David and Betty moved to their farm that has been in the family for 150 years
just south of Savoy and spent 55 of the nearly 60 years together raising their children, cattle and
crops on their beloved farm. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II.
