Henry
was born near Roswell, Georgia, the youngest of the Ball's 12 children
and the son of Peter M. and Nancy Brightwell Ball. The family moved to
Texas from Georgia in 1896 and located near Gainesville, Cooke Co.
Texas......He was a long time resident of Tioga, Texas ... Henry
married Miss Minnie Greer near Tioga, Texas on 2 December 1914 .... He
joined the church in April of 1904 and became ordained as a Baptist
minister in 1912, and served churches in Bonham, Tioga, Fort Worth and
Durant, Okla ... His first church to pastor was the Harmony Church near
Bonham, Texas in 1910 .... Elder H.G.Ball, 83, of Tioga who baptized
the late Senator, Sam Rayburn of Bonham on Sept 2, 1956, and preached
his funeral Nov 18, 1961, with 5 past, present and future Presidents in
attendance. (Past Presidents were Harry S. Truman and Dwight D.
Eisenhower, present President John F. Kennedy and future Presidents
Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard M. Nixon.) ... Elder Ball died Sunday in
Sherman ... Funeral services will be held in the Primitive Baptist
Church in Tioga. Burial will be in Tioga Cemetery .... He owned and
operated his own insurance agency and grocery store in Tioga for 45
years. He was a former member of the Grayson County School Board and
the Grayson County Draft Board and in the 1940's served as mayor of
Tioga for several years..

Tioga,
Texas - Elder H.G. Ball, 83, of Tioga who baptised the late Sam Rayburn
of Bonham, Sept 2, 1956, and preached his funeral Nov 18, 1961, died
Sunday in Sherman. Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm Tuesday in Primitive Baptist Church in Tioga. Burial will be in Tioga Cemetery. The
Rev. Mr. Ball was born in Georgia and came to Tioga as a young man. He
was baptised in 1904, ordained as a Baptist minister in 1912, and
served churches in Bonham, Tioga, Fort Worth and Durant, Okla. He
owned and operated his own insurance agency and grocery store in Tioga
for 45 years. He was a former member of the Grayson County School Board
and the Grayson County Draft Board and in the 1940's served as mayor of
Tioga.

NOTE:
Bro. Ball's Grocery Store allowed many farmers credit from one crop
season until the next. He was the speaker for most of the school
functions and also was the pastor that was called on almost anytime
there was a death in the community. Very well thought of and missed by
everyone. |
