Dallas Morning News 11 Jul 1951 - James Ellis Cowan Rites Held at Tioga
Tioga , Texas July 10-
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Tioga Methodist Church for James Ellis Cowan, 77, who died Sunday at his home here. He had been ill three months. Burial was in the Tioga Cemetery.
Cowan was a native of Scottsboro, Ala., and came to Texas in 1896. He settled at Honey Grove, later moved to Gunter and came to Tioga in 1931. He was a Methodist. 
He is survived by his wife, four sons, F.W. Cowan of Fort Worth; Raymond Cowan of Tioga, Joe L. Cowan of Dallas and Malcolm Cowan of Fayetteville, N.C. ; three daughters, Mrs. Rex Arnold of Cleburne, Miss Bessie Cowan of Tioga and Miss Helen Cowan of Dallas; two brothers, W.C. Cowan of Whitesboro and J.C. Cowan of Dutton, Ala. and seven grandchildren.
