Final Rites Held for One of Van Alstyne's Oldest Pioneers
Mrs. L. V. Edwards, 82, Succumbs after Brief Illness
Funeral services for Mrs. Louisa Victoria Edwards, 82-year-old pioneer
of Van Alstyne, who died suddenly at her home here, Sunday night at 8:30
were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Baptist here, with the Rev. Frank
Johnston, pastor, conducting, assisted by the Rev. C.S.Wilhite, pastor
of the Van Alstyne First Methodist Church. Burial was in the local cemetery.
Mrs. Edwards was born Feb. 14, 1857 in Coffey County, Tennessee.
She was first married to Will Cummings in Tennessee in 1880. She came to
Texas in 1890, settling at Van Alstyne, were she had resided until her
death, and in 1891 she was married to Frank D. Edwards of Van Alstyne.
Mr. Edwards died in 1907.
Survivors include seven children: Mrs. Callie Creager Milford; Mrs.
Donnie Atkins, Sherman; Jess Edwards, Dallas; Walter C. Cummings, Tulsa,
Okla.; Ed Cummings, Wichita Falls, and L.B.Edwards and Graley Edwards,
Van Alstyne; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Greer Coffey, Homer Tate, Louie Tate, Earl Whitaker,
D.W.Jay and J.B.Bailey.
