Van Alstyne - Marvin Sherman Taylor, 82, died
Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, in Baylor Medical Center - Dallas.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in
First United Methodist Church in Van Alstyne with the Rev. Jack Wallace
officiating. Burial will be in Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Harvey Wilson, David Campbell, Tommy
Smith, Jeff Edwards, Benny Edwards, Steve Jackson. Honorary pallbearers
will be Wallace Tooley, Joe Eatherly, Roy Jackson.
Mr. Taylor was born October 27, 1921, in Greenville,
the son of Floyd George Taylor and Tommie Elizabeth Hackly. He married
Venus Smith on February 22, 1941, in Greenville.
He served as Superintendent of Van Alstyne schools for
12 years. He served as Mayor for two years, City Councilman for four years.
He was a member of PRS on the state and local level, listed in Who's Who
in American Education.
Surviving are his wife, Venus Taylor of Van Alstyne;
son Jerry Taylor and wife, Margie of Plano; daughter, Kay Waller andhusband,
Bill of Dallas; three grandchildren, Mary Hall and husband, Mike of Los
Alamos, New Mexico; Jeff Waller and wife, Kristy of Austin; Kate Taylor
of Denver, Colorado; three great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Jessica Hall,
Janie Waller; sister, Dorothy and one brother, charles.
Family night will be Friday from 7-8 p.m. at Flesher
Funeral Home.
