Carl Cannon Umphress (male, white, married) passed away on May 20, 1961 at his residence inside the city limits of Van Alstyne, Grayson County, Texas. He was 65 years of age.  The informant was Virginia Ross.  Carl Cannon Umphress was born May 22, 1895 in Texas and was the son of John Umphress and Eula Cannon.  The cause of death was myocardial infraction.  Burial was in the Van Alstyne Cemetery, Van Alstyne, Grayson County, Texas on May 22, 1961. Arrangements were under the direction of Flesher Funeral Home, Van Alstyne, Texas.

Van Alstyne - Carl Cannon Umphress, 65, of Van Alstyne rancher and farmer, died unexpectedly about 8:30 p.m. Saturday in his home. Funeral arrangements are pending at Flesher Funeral Home.Mr. Umphress was an extensive landowner in the Van Alstyne area, raised registered cattle and Shetland ponies, and was a director and stockholder in the First National Bank of Van Alstyne.He was born May 22, 1895, in Van Alstyne, son of Mrs. John Umphress and the late Mr. Umphress. His father was a former president of the bank.Mr. Umphress was a graduate of Van Alstyne High School and attended Austin College in Sherman. He was active in Van Alstyne civic affairs and was a member of the First Christian Church.He was married to Miss Glen Harrell in 1914 in Van Alstyne.Survivors are his wife; his mother, Mrs. John Umphress of Van Alstyne; a daughter, Mrs. Gene Ross of Van Alstyne; a sister, Mrs. Henry Hynds of Van Alstyne; and two grandchildren.
