Mrs. John Shelton Laid To Rest Sunday Afternoon

Funeral services for Mrs. John Shelton were conducted in the First Christian Church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock by Rev. Mac Pop of Sherman. She passed away last Thursday morning at her home at 11 o'clock following a long illness. Pallbearers were Robert H. Hynds, Weldon Lewis of Anna, O. M. Barton of Anna, Eulee Akins, R. G. Bass of Anna and Jack Hill of Sherman. Interment was in the Van Alstyne cemetery under the direction of Flesher Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shelton was born in Van Alstyne on Nov. 7, 1905, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jim Headrick. She was united in marriage with John Shelton on Nov. 4, 1922 in Van Alstyne. Since the age of nine she had been a member of the Christian Church. Mrs. Shelton was a kindly woman, beloved by her children and grandchildren, and a good friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband; by two daughters, Mrs. Horace Mullican of Anna and Mrs. Cecil Kirby of McKinney; by four sons, James T. Shelton of McKinney, Johnny Paul Shelton of Lubbock, Morgan R. Shelton with the U.S. Army in Okinawa, and Robert Shelton of Van Alstyne; by two sisters, Mrs. Sherd Huddleston of Van Alstyne and Mrs. Betty Headrick of Dallas; by eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son and a daughter.

John Shelton Victim of Heart Attack Saturday

John Conally Shelton, for many years a carpenter and builder in this area, died Saturday morning at 1:45 in the Community Hospital in  Sherman, about 24 hours after he had been rushed there in an ambulance following a heart attack.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 in the First Christian Church here, of which he was a member for many years. Services were conducted by Rev. Hubert Long of Decatur and Rev. Jesse Pugh of Denison. Pallbearers were J. O. Sterling, Zac Emerson, Robt. H. Hynds, Wayne Tilley, A. L. Geer and R. G. Bass. Interment was in the Van Alstyne Cemetery, under the direction of Flesher Funeral Home.
Mr. Shelton had a host of friends here and at Anna, where he was residing at the time of his passing. He was a good man, a loving husband and father, and respected by all who knew him. He was united in marriage with Miss Ann Mary Hedrick on Nov.3, 1922 in Van Alstyne. She preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 1963. He was born in Anna on Oct. 10, 1900, a son of the late Robert T. and Minnie Lair Shelton.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Anita Mullican of Anna and Mrs. Jean Kirby of McKinney; by four sons, James Shelton of McKinney, Johnny Paul Shelton of Lubbock, Morgan Shelton of the U.S. Army and Bob Shelton of Anna; by one brother, Roy Shelton of Anna; by five sisters, Mrs. Olin Wright of Dallas, Mrs. Gladys Nickerson of Dallas, Mrs. Ninnis Knox of McKinney, Mrs. Virginia Harle of Boise, Idaho, and Mrs. Mae Cullum of Tacoma, Washington; and by eight grandchildren.
