Billie Sue Whitfield Rhodes Owens, a 61 year old resident of Houston, passed away Friday, July 24, 2009 at her residence.  She was born July 16, 1948 in Houston, a daughter of Marvin Whitfield, Sr. and Jimmie Lee Whitfield.  She married Richard Rhodes in the 1960's and the later in the 1970's married Larry Owens in Houston.  Larry preceded her in death in 2006.  She is also preceded in death by her father, Marvin Whitfield.  Sue was trained as a beautician and owend her own shop as well as working in others.  She shared her most enjoyable years working to assist her husband, Larry, in his commercial office furniture sales. 
She is survived by 3 sons, Charles Scott Rhodes; Richard Edward Rhodes III and wife Shannon, and Jimmie Dewayne Whitfield; 1 grandson, Matthew Rhodes; her mother, Jimmie Whitfield; 1 brother, Marvin Whitfield, Jr. and wife Shirley; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family, and a host of friends.  A graveside service will be held Saturday August 1, 2009 at 12:00 pm at the Van Alstyne Cemetery under the direction of Flesher Funeral Home in Van Alstyne, Texas.  Brother Bobby Gene Baker will officiate.  The family will receive visitors Friday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.  There will also be visitation at 11:00 am on Saturday, one hour prior to service.
