Deacon James H. Adlof was born in Sherman,
Texas the son of Herman Hugo and Ruby L. "Jackson" Adlof. He was one of
five siblings.
He attended St. Joseph Academy and graduated from Sherman
High School.
During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps.
On October 10, 1947, he married Mary J. Petty in Sherman,
a marriage that lasted 48 years until his passing. The couple was blessed
with six children.
He was employed by the U.S. Post Office and retired
after 35 years of service.
He studied for five years before being ordained as
a Deacon in the Catholic Church and served in this capacity at St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Sherman, Texas. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus,
an active member in Sherman Assistance Ministry, and a Legislative Representative
for Post Office Clerks of Texas for several years.
He was survived by his loving wife Mary; four sons,
Bobby G. Adlof of Texarkana, James E. Adlof of Bells, J. Kent Adlof of
Plano and J. Kevin Adlof of Sherman; two daughters, Pamela Lewis of Pilot
Point and C. Dawn Laxson of Sherman; brother Bobby C. Adlof of Princeton
and David P. Adlof of Waxahachie; sisters, Margaret Buchanan of San Antonio
and Velma Adlof of Sherman, all cities in Texas; and 15 grandchildren.
Rosary was recited at Dannel Funeral Home. Mass of
Christian Burial was celebrated at St.
Mary's Catholic Church with Reverend Jeremy Myers officiating.
Pallbearers were the 4th Degree members of the Knights
of Columbus. Burial at St Mary?s Catholic Cemetery, Sherman.
