RITES SET HERE FOR JAMES OTHO BLANTON - Funeral services of James
Otho Blanton, 67, who died of a heart attack Tuesday, will be conducted
at 2 p.m.
Thursday in the McDonald Funeral chapel. Rev. Ben D.
Johnson, pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church will officiate.
He will be assisted by Rev. Jack Welch, pastor of Central Baptist
Church. Burial will be in City of Lubbock cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Sam King, Woody Massengale, Zed
Marcy, Frank Brown, Earl Wilson and Carl B Barett.
Blanton, a resident here for 11 years, was stricken
about 6 a.m. and died before he could reach medical aid. He lived
at 311 Ave. U.
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Mabel Blanton; a son, James
Ralph Blanton of Portales, N.M.; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Meirerant of Wellington,
Kans. and Ms. Alto Jackson of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Bert Blanton
of Waco and
Jack Blanton of Corpus Christi, and an uncle J.F. Blanton of Lubbock.
(research note - James Otho Blanton was the son of John S. Blanton
and Nannie Rebecca Jones. He was the grandson of Benjamin F. "Frank"
Blanton and Julia Ann Blanton. His great-grandparents were Benjamin
Edward Blanton
and Mary Ann Feagans of Rutherford Co., NC and Fannin Co., TX pioneers
Stephen Fletcher Blanton and Sarah McDaniel, who moved to Texas from Rutherford
Co., NC.
