Waldo Funeral Home. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, November 11, 2007 from 4:00-6:00
at Waldo Funeral Home.
Dorchester- Funeral services for Harry William Burke will be held
10:00 am Monday, November 12 in the Waldo Funeral Chapel. Rev. Bobby
Fletcher of the Dorchester Baptist Church and Rev. Bob Layman of
Greenville will officiate. Music will be provided by Dennis Garner.
Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery with Doug Garner, Jody
David Layman, Nathan Layman, Mark Bartlett, and Pat Tally serving
pallbearers. Mr. Burke passed away Friday, November 9 at Wilson
Medical Center at the age of 81.
Harry was born on May 25, 1926 in Sherman to the late H.R. and Esther
(Shatley) Burke. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1943 and
attended Austin College for two years. During World War II, Mr.
served in the Pacific with the US Navy from 1944 to 1946. He married
Jessie Lou Todd on January 24, 1953 in Sherman. Harry worked for
years as a draftsman in the engineering department of Hardwick-Etter
before retiring in 1975. During retirement he raised registered
Angus cattle. Harry was a member of the American Legion and Dorchester
Mr. Burke is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jessie Lou of Dorchester;
one nephew, Pat Tally of Sherman; two great nephews, Chris Tally
Sherman and Jason Tally of Dallas; one great niece, Jennifer Tally
Houston; four sisters-in-law, Jimmie Garner of Gunter, Lorene Grissom
Van Alstyne, Wanda Bartlett and husband Jack of Sherman, and Doris
Layman and husband Bob of Greenville. He is preceded in death by
parents and one sister, Lorene Hughes.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Sunday at Waldo
Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Dorchester Baptist Church
