KATIE KLEBER HELD
6 January 1863 ? 28 April 1950
Mrs. Katie (Kleber) Held was born in Niagara Falls, New York the
daughter of the late P. H. & Katie Marie Kleber. She died at
St Vincent Hospital, Sherman, Texas.
On November 27, 1987 at Buffalo, New York, she married Mr. Jacob
Held, who preceded her in death in 1938.
Prior to moving to Sherman, Mrs. Held made her home on a farm near
Pottsboro, Texas for 25 years.
Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Mary G. Orr of Sherman; one half-sister,
Mrs. Joe E. Craddock of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Mrs. A.R. Crump
of Garland, Texas and Mrs. E.C. Fletcher of Springfield, Oregon; and three
great-grandchildren, Martha and Bill Crump, both of Garland and Gay Lea
Fletcher of Springfield.
Pallbearers were J.E. Burleson, Clyde White, Jesse Black, Reverend
Talmage Norman, Dr. George Landolt, and Clifford Dinsmore.
Funeral services were held at Barrett Funeral Chapel, with the Reverend
T.M. Jenson, pastor of Key Memorial Methodist Church, where Mrs. Held was
a member, officiating. The Reverend Walter Lazenby, pastor of the
Grand Avenue Presbyterian Methodist Church, assisted.

Mr. Held was born in Germany, arriving in the United States in 1882.
Mr. Held who had been of ill health for 13 months, died at his home in
His obituary that appeared on the Sherman Democrat on November 16,
1938, notes that he married Miss Katie Kleber in Buffalo, New York on November
29, 1885. Mrs. Katie Kleber Held's obituary, noted that they were
married on November 27, 1887.
The couple spent most of their lives on a farm near Pottsboro, Texas,
moving to Sherman in 1914. In Sherman, Mr. Held was in the lumber business
for several years, as a partner of the Palmer-Held Lumber Company.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church in Germany.
He was survived by his widow; a daughter, Mrs. S.G. Orr of Pottsboro;
and two granddaughters, Wilma and Kathryn Orr.
Pallbearers were Harry Belden, John Davis, Jessie Black, Roy Duke,
Wayne Orr, and G.F. Smallwood.
Funeral services were held at the Held residence, with Reverend M.L.
Hamilton, pastor f the Key Memorial Methodist Church, officiating.
