J. O. TEEL Sr.
   James Oscar Teel Sr., 82, a former Abilenian, died at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday
in Sundown where he had lived the past few years.
   Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Elliott's Chapel of Memories, with
burial in Elmwood Memorial Park.
   Born Jan. 21, 1887, in Kentucky, he was reared in Whitewright, Tex.  He
was a retired pumper for Magnolia Oil Co. and a member of the Baptist
church.  His wife, Mattie, died Feb. 5, 1965, in Abilene.
   Surviving are five sons, the Rev. W. B. Teel of Sunnymead, Calif., Carrol
of Woodland, Calif, the Rev. Almon Teel of Orangevale, Calif, the Rev. Oren
Teel of Fresno, Calif, and the Rev. James O. Jr.. of Buenos Aires; three
daughters, Mrs. Walter Hyink of White Settlement, Mrs. Avery Richey of
Redondo Beach, Calif. and Mrs. C.A. Alexander of Sundown; two brothers,
Clarence of Vernon and the Rev. Truman Teel of Dallas, a sister, Mrs. M.L.
Sanderson of Electra; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
(Researcher's notes:  James Oscar Teel was the son of William Burr Teel and
Emily Louise Blanton.  His grandparents were Benjamin F. "Frank" Blanton and
Julia Ann Blanton (Julia's maiden surname the same as her husband's) and Asa
Teel and Lovenia Barnes.  His maternal great-grandparents were Benjamin
Edward Blanton and Mary Ann Feagans and Stephen Fletcher Blanton and Sarah
McDaniel.)

MRS. TEEL RITES SET (PHOTO)
   Funeral for Mrs. J.O. Teel of 2133 Simmons will be held at 10 a.m. Monday
at University Baptist Church.  Dr. Ronald Prince, pastor, will officiate
assisted by the Rev. H.R. Lieb, Ash St. Baptist Church pastor.  Mrs. Teel
died unexpectedly at her home about 2 a.m. Friday.  Pallbearers will be
David Teel, Marshall Rowe, Larry Hyink, Avery Richey Jr., H.C. McDermit, and
Byno Warren.
(Researcher's note:  James Oscar Teel and Mattie Roena Beck
probably were married in Grayson Co., TX.  They were the parents of 7
children:  Opal Teel Alexander, Rev. W.B. "Dub" Teel, Earnest Dewey Teel,
Edith Teel  Richey, Carroll Byron Teel,  Rev. Almond "Al" Bernard Teel, Mary
Margaret Teel Hyink, James Oscar Teel, Rev. Oren Kenneth Teel.  Mattie was
the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. T. J. Beck.
