MATTIE SANDERSON
Final rites for Mrs. Mattie Lowena Sanderson (sic Mattie Louvena Sanderson),
96, who died Oct. 11th in a local nursing home, were held Wednesday at 10
a.m. in James B. Totten Memorial Chapel with Rev. Joe Ainsworth, pastor of
First Baptist Church, officiating.  Interment was in Eastview Cemetery in
Vernon under direction of James B. Totten & Son Funeral Home.
  Mrs. Sanderson was born June 2,1885 (sic Jan. 2) in Whitering (sic
Whitewright), Texas and had lived in Electra for the past 61 years.  She was
a retired telephone operator for Texas Company, retiring in 1946.  She was a
member of First Baptist Church and the Pythian Lodge.
  Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. D. A. Fults (nee Evelyn Jean
Sanderson Fultz) of Electra; one son, T. K. Sanderson of Amarillo; two
brothers, W. T. Teel of Mesquite and A. C. Teel of Vernon.  (Research note -
Mattie Louvena Teel Sanderson was the daughter of William Burr Teel and Emma Louise Blanton.  She was the granddaughter of Benjamin F. (Frank) Blanton and Julia Ann Blanton and of Asa Harper Teel and Louvenia Barnes.  Her great-grandparents were Benjamin Edward Blanton and Mary Feagans of
Rutherford Co., NC and Fannin Co., TX pioneers Stephen Fletcher Blanton and Sarah McDaniel.)

TEEL - Well Known Electrician Passes Away
   Horace Franklin Teel, 57, passed away early Wednesday morning at the Electra Hospital.  Teel entered the hospital on Sept. 1 and had been seriously ill since that time.  Death came at 4:15 a.m. from complications.
   Funeral services were held from the First Bapatist Church at 3 o'clock Thursday with Rev. Loyd Lester, assisted by the Rev. E. E. Coleman as the officiants.  Interment was in the Electra Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the James B. Totten and Son Funeral Home.
   Immediate survivors include one sister, Mrs. M. L. Sanderson of Electra with whom he made his home, and three brothers, W. T. Teel, Peacock, Texas; A. C. Teel, Vernon and J. O. Teel, Electra.  One brother and his mother and father preceded him in death.
   Teel was a veteran of World War One and a member of the American Legion.
   Pallbearers were: H. W. Myers, Hickory Moore, Joe Moore, Henry Kling, Oscar Millhollon and Oscar Talley.

   (research note:  Horace Teel was son of William Burr Teel and Emma Louise Blanton.  He was the grandson of Benjamin Franklin Blanton (a CSA veteran) and Julia Ann Blanton (maiden name same surname) and Asa Harper Teel and Lovenia Barnes.  He was the great-grandson of and of Benjamin Edward Blanton and Mary Feagans of Rutherford Co., NC and of Fannin Co., TX pioneers, Stephen Fletcher Blanton (a CSA veteran)  and Sarah McDaniels.

FUNERAL SERVICES ARE SET TODAY FOR MRS. VERNON GILLIAM (aka Mable T. Wren Blanton Gilliam)
   Funeral services or Mrs. Vernon W. Gilliam, 47, who was found dead at her
home at 921 32nd st., about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Central Baptist
Church.  Burial will be in the City of Lubbock Cemetery by McDonald Funeral
Home.
   Mrs. Gilliam's body was found in a bedroom at her home by Charles Howard,
step-son.  She had been a resident here since 1924.
   Police said a gas hose had been disconnected from a stove and inserted
under a towel over Mrs. Gilliam's face after the gas was turned on.  A note
wax found on a table beside her bed.
   INQUEST IS CONDUCTED
   Justice of the Peace F.R. Land, conducing an inquest into the death had
not returned a verdict late Monday.  However, he said Mrs. Gilliam's death
"appeared to be suicide."
   Police and a fire department emergency crew rushed to the home but the
firemen were unable to revive the woman.
   She is survived by her husband, Howard, and another step-son, Vernon Ray
Gilliam Teague; a brother, Carl Wren, Winsboro; five sisters, Mrs. Velma
Edge, Lubbock; Mrs. Clyde Boren, Houston; Mrs. Mike Pearson, Ralls; Mrs.
Omah Knight, Beverly Hills, Calif; Mrs. Doyle Morris, Lubbock; and her
mother, Mrs. Mattie Wren, Lubbock.  (Research note:  Mrs. Vernon W. Gilliam was the former Mable T. Wren Blanton, widow of James Otho Blanton.  She was the mother of one child, James Ralph Blanton, who is presumed to have preceded his mother in death. Mable was the daughter of Robert White Wren and Myrtle Parker and the granddaughter of  Jack Wren and Mary Richardson.
James Otho Blanton was the son of John Stephen Blanton and Nannie Rebecca Jones and the grandson of Benjamin F. Blanton and Julia Ann Blanton and the g-grandson of Benjamin Edward Blanton and Mary Feagans of Rutherford Co., NC and of Fannin Co., TX pioneers, Stephen F. Blanton and Sarah McDaniel.)
