DOROTHY WELLS - Denison - Graveside services for Dorothy Wells, 86 year old
former Denison resident, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, in
Cedarlawn Memorial Park.  She died Sunday, July 6, 1997, at Hugh Chatham
Nursing Center in Elkin, N.C.
   The Rev Joe Dee ray will officiate.
   Johnson-Moore Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
   Mrs. Wells was born on October 19, 1910, in Whitewright, the daughter of
Ben F. and Frances Hodges Blanton.  She attended Whitewright and Denison
schools,  including Denison Commercial College, where she at a later date
instructed classes in bookkeeping, shorthand and typing at the college.
   She married Clarence Wells, Jr. on September 15, 1935, in Dallas, Texas.
He died on July 16, 1950.
   Mrs. Wells worked for J.C. Penny Company as bookkeeper and cashier and
retired from there in the late 1970s after many years of service.  She was a
charter member of the First Assembly of God Church.  She also was a member
of the Order of the Eastern Star of Denison and the Denison Garden Club.
She was also a former member of the Denison Garden Club.  She was also a
former member of the Denison Business and Professional Women's Club and the
Denison XXI Club.
   Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn Wells Dickson of Elkin, N.C.; one
granddaughter, Laurie Dickson Dyer and husband Sean of Elkin, N.C., one
granddaughter David C. Dickson III and wife, Cindy of Mt. Airy, N.C.; two
great-granddaughters, Bevin Louise and Darcie Ellyn Dyer of Elkin, N.C.; and
two great-grandsons, Carter and Jack Wells Dickson of Mt. . Airy, N.C.  Also
surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Jean Blanton; and one
sister, Louise Blanton, all of Denison.
   Besides her husband, Mrs. wells was preceded in death by her parents, a
brother, Sheriff G.W. "Wood" Blanton; and her son-in-law, Major David C.
Dickson Jr.
   In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be made to the
American Heart Association, Grayson County Division, P.O. Box 1234, Sherman,
Texas 75091, or call 1 800 242 8721.
