The Herald Democrat SHERMAN - Freedia passed away very peacefully with her family by her side on Nov. 26, 2009.
Freedia was born on Jan. 22, 1935 in Georgetown, Williamson County Texas to the late Claude Leslie and Clara Violet Conaway. 
Freedia attended schools in and around Waco and the Georgetown area. She graduated from Georgetown High School in 1953. 
In 1956 she married Jess (Buddy) Stephens. During their time together they traveled all over the United States. Freedia and Jess had four children they cared for dearly. 
Freedia was primarily a housewife raising her children, although, she did work outside the home at various jobs. She was a very loving and caring mother. 
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by her husband in 2005 and a daughter, Stephanie Powrie, in 2004. 
She is survived by two sons, Dennis Keith Stephens and his wife Jeanne and Mark Reid Stephens; one daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Michelle Risk and husband Naif J. Risk; four grandchildren, Lauren Stephens, Dustin Powrie, and Cryill and Jeremy Stephens; one brother, Jack Conaway and his wife Sharon and their family; and one sister, Clara Claudette Otey and her family. 
Private family services will be held at West Hill Cemetery, Sherman.
