James Howard Mulkey, Sr., 91, of Sherman died on Thursday, Dec. 17,
2009. Dannel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Graveside services
will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at West Hill Cemetery.
James was born Feb. 10, 1918, to John and Ida Martin Mulkey in Commerce.
He was educated in the public schools. In February 1941, he married Viola
Belle Knox. She preceded him in death in 1999. He was a 50-year member
of Key Memorial Methodist Church in Sherman.
James served in World War II from 1942-46 as a member of the U.S.
Army Air Force. He was a member of the Army of Occupation in Japan and
the Philippines.
He was employed for 33 years at Quaker Oats and later worked at
Anderson Clayton. He was an avid fisherman and woodworker. He was an aviation
and automobile enthusiast and enjoyed traveling with the Triple L Club.
James is survived by his son Dr. James H. Mulkey Jr. and wife Vicki
of Aubrey; a daughter, Linda Dicoskey and husband Jack of Carrollton; grandchildren,
Amy Nicholson and husband John, and Dr. James Garrett Mulkey and wife Kim;
great-grandchildren: Tate and Remy Nicholson and Avery and James Beckett
Mulkey and friend and companion Mary Nell Miller of Tom Bean.
