SHERMAN - Funeral services for James Ray Haliburton, 88, of Sherman
will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 2010 at the Waldo Funeral Home
Chapel. Burial will follow at the West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.
Ray passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 at the Wilson N. Jones
Medical Center.
He was born on July 15, 1921 in Hickory, Okla., the son of Jimmy
Thomas Haliburton and Ida Geneva Greene Haliburton. He was raised in Leonard.
Ray married his soul mate Mildred Geneva "Neva" Farmer on June 17, 1946
after serving in the U.S. Army.
Ray was a World War II Veteran, who served his country proud from
1942 to 1945 as a field phone operator in Holland, France, Italy and Germany.
He was about to be shipped to the South Pacific when he found out the war
was over.
He enjoyed life to its fullest. He enjoyed playing pranks on his
grandkids and friends. Ray raised chickens, rabbits, hounds and homing
pigeons. He was a very hands-on person and loved to lend a hand to anyone
in need and teach them anything he could. He was a handy man and a jack-of-all-trades
working various occupations including Allied Van Lines, Kroger Foods and
Evergreen Foods.
He owned and operated Haliburton Feed in Sherman from 1975 to 1980.
Ray stayed busy even after his retirement at Haliburton Salvage until his
health forced him to stay home. He will be missed very much by his family
and friends.
Ray is survived by his wife Mildred Geneva Haliburton of Sherman;
daughter, Carol Collum and husband Roy; son, Richard T. Haliburton; daughter,
Mary D. Bowden and husband David; and son, Ronny L. Haliburton and wife
Tina all of Sherman; grandchildren, Tammy Matteson and husband Ross, Tim
Collum and wife Leslie, Mary Ann Bowden, David Bowden, Venessa Bowden,
Annette Lynn Haliburton, Bobby L. Haliburton, Josh Haliburton and Jo Ellen
Haliburton also all Sherman. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren;
brothers, James Haliburton Jr., Mearl Haliburton and wife Nelda and Cecil
Haliburton and wife Pat, all of Sherman; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins
and a host of friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter Denise
Bowden.
Family night will be held from 6 -8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10 at the
Waldo Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Alonso Ramirez, Jorge Garcia, Javier Carpio,
Ezegviel Yanez, Leonardo Yanez and Mr. Ramirez.
