SHERMAN - Willie G. Hayes, 85-year-old Sherman resident, passed away Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 at the Homestead of Sherman. 
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20 at Payne Chapel AME Church in Sherman with Rev. Marjorie Hamilton Scott, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery. 
Mr. Hayes was born on Sept. 20, 1924 in Waxahachie, the son of Richard and Ruby Hayes and attended schools in the Waxahachie Public School System. Willie and his wife, Mary J. Rodgers Hayes, had been married for 62 years. 
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Payne Chapel AME Church in Sherman. 
Surviving are his wife, Mary Hayes of Sherman; son, Robert J. "Bobby" Hayes of Plano; daughters, Helen Williams of Sherman and Ruby Hayes of Dallas; eight grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. 
Family night will be from 6 -7 p.m. Friday at Angelic Mortuary in Sherman, and public viewing will be at Angelic from 10 a.m. -8 p.m. Friday
