Submit Information
First off, I want to empasize how much I appreciate all of the submissions that have been received so far for this website. Grimes County TXGenWeb could not be such a interesting, informative site without all of you!
My tie to Grimes County is through the ancestors of my late husband, Howard Colson. His father was born there and his other lines are Blount, Hargrove, Thornton, Ward, and Worsham. I work at a full time teaching job. I don't live in Grimes County either which makes it hard to find information for these pages.
This is my wish list for Grimes County. Any or as much of this that you can help in would be so very appreciated. THANK YOU!:
- Marriage records for volumes M-N. I have transcribed through the letter D already.
- Marriage records for volume 5, 1882-1889.
- Marriage records for volumes 8 and 9, 1899-1908.
- Marriage records for volumes 10 and 11, 1908-1918.
**NOTE - if someone can transcribe the marriages from these volumes at the Navasota Library and send to me, I can type them onto the webpages.
- Volunteers to do lookups from census CD's they might have or books that they have on Grimes County
- Need pictures of these historical homes, markers or buildings: Anderson - B. B. Goodrich home, Michael Moore Kennard home, Steinhagen Log Cabin, Orphan's Friend Lodge, Munition facotory historical marker, Sally Thompson School Building marker, Grimes County CSA marker. Navasota - Evans home, Freeman Inn, La Bahia Trail marker, Lee Tabernacle Methodist Church, Norwood House, La Salle House and statue, Templeman House, Terrell House, Jesse Youens home, H. Schumacher Oil Works, Piedmont Springs marker. Pictures for photo tours of Iola, Richards, Bedias, Plantersville, etc.
- Information for our other project pages: Our Ancestors, Letters from Home, Who am I? page for identifying pictures, bios, obits, wills, deeds, genealogies, African-American records
- Volunteers to canvas cemeteries that we don't have online now and take pictures if possible
- Transcribing of obits from the fiche archives at the Navasota Examiner and/or those available through the Latter Day Saint church
- Church histories
- Dates for festivals, church bazaars, reunions, other events for our calendar
- Census images online. SK Publications will make these available to our Grimes County archives and our website in one of two ways. Either a minimun number of people put their name on a waiting list to buy a CD for that year - this costs $20 a CD I think. Or one person buys the full price CD at $.50 per page and SK Publications will donate the images for that census year to the Grimes County archives. Information about this program can be found here: SKPublications - Grimes County, TX
- Census transcriptions for 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930
- Proofreading of 1860 and 1870 census transcriptions
