Aaron English, an early settler of Wimberley, came to that Hays county community from Lee county, as did several other Wimberley settlers, between 1874 and 1880. He was born on October 28, 1828, place unknown (the death certificates of two of his children say it was Arkansas, in the 1880 census it's shown as Alabama) and died April 15, 1890 at Wimberley, TX (bur. Jacob's Well Cem., near Wimberley). He married (date and place unknown) Sarah Ann Garland, who was born in Illinois, November 18, 1833, and died Hays cty. June 25, 1917, (bur. Jacob's Well). Sarah Garland English was the daughter of Joseph and Matilda (?Lane) Garland, who moved to St. Francis county, AR, before Sarah's sister, Mary Ann Garland, was born in 1837.

The earliest "solid" documentation of Aaron English in Texas is his purchase of 37.5 acres of land in Austin county from A. J. Barnhill on 02Jan1854, but he is believed to have been in Texas earlier than that. His oldest known child, Mary Ann English, is consistently reported in various family and official records (including her death certificate) to have been born in Texas on January 5, 1851. According to the Confederate pension application of Sarah's brother, Samuel Jasper Garland, he came to Texas from Arkansas about 1850. Sarah's mother and step-father, Lewis G. and Matilda (Lane Garland) Bailey are first found on the Austin cty., TX tax rolls in the mid-1850's.
So far no connection to the few other English families that were in Texas during the early 1850's has been established, although circumstantial evidence indicates Aaron *may* have been a grandson of Elizabeth English (widow of James) who along with ten of her eleven children settled in the San Augustine District of what is now east Texas during the late 1820's.
