                Earnest C. Perry


   Mr. Ernest C. Perry, 82, of Mertens died Wednesday evening May 5, at a Corsicana hospital.  He was born August 17, 1910 in Mertens, Texas, the son of Marion Isaac and Fannie Celina Browning Perry.  He grew up in Mertens where he farmed and ranched all of his life.  He married Mattie Lou Thomas on December 3, 1927 in Milford.  He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mertens.  Survivors include his wife, Mattie L. Perry of Mertens, two sons, Thomas B. Perry and daughter-in-law, Arlene of Grapeland, Texas and Van Eugene Perry and daughter-n-law Melanie of Mertens, two daughters, Mary Lou Harris and son-in-law Doyle of Irene, Texas and Betty Sue Northern of Lubbock, Texas, fourteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services were held Friday, May 7, at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mertens with Rev. James Adams officiating.  Interment was at the Richland Cemetery.

   Edens Funeral Home in Hillsboro was in charge of arrangements.

   Pallbearers were Kenneth Hasten, Leonard Hasten, Melvin Leggett, Buddy Ballew, Don Ballew, Dwayne Watson, Conley Perry and  Roy Lurevik.
