 Cleburne Times-Review Obituary Notice dated Feb. 2, 1979:
R.E. Markum, 68, Godley, died Thursday at Marks English Hospital in Glen Rose. A 34- year resident of Godley, he was born in Hillsboro March 4, 1910 the son of Robert R. and Kate Markum. Markum was married in Cleburne in 1931 to the former Lula Rhoades. He was retired from General Dynamics, a members of the Godley Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge and a Veteran of World War II.   
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Lula Markum; two sons, Robert Earl Markum of Ft. Worth and James A. Markum of Cleburne; four daughters, Mrs. Frances Mathias and Shela Kay Pruitt, both of Burleson, Mrs. Dorothy Noble of Godley and Mrs. Ann Vaughn of Ft. Worth; four brothers, Louis Markum, Woodrow Markum and Merle Markum of Ft. Worth and Othor Markum of Irving; two sisters, Mrs. Venita Myles of Houston and Mrs. Audrey Markum of Ft. Worth; and fifteen grandchildren.
Funeral Services are set for 1:30 pm Saturday in the First Baptist Church of Godley. Burial will be in Godley Cemetery under the direction of Crosier-Pearson Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Jim Johnson, Bill Morris, Don Markum, J.W. Rhoades and Raymond Rhoades. Rev. Gary Crawford officiating.
