Loyal H. Bessire, 79, of Lubbock died Tuesday March 18, 2008 at home. He was born March 6, 1929 in Gholson, Texas.

Loyal is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Mazanec Bessire; his children, Patrick Bessire of Lubbock, Mike and Jan Bessire of Midland, Tom Bessire of Houston, and Betsy and Mike Lewis of Plainview; his grandchildren Brian Lewis of Lubbock, Lauren Bessire of Plano, Amanda and Chad Johnson of San Angelo and Liz Bessire of Midland; his twin brother Royal Bessire of Hewitt, and his sisters Joyce Langdon of San Antonio and Billy Faye Holecek of Waco.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Arthur and Mary Hazel Bessire.

Loyal was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps with whom he served during World Was II. He received the Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. He attended Baylor University. Loyal worked for Equifax Services as a Regional Manager for 35 years, retiring in March 1989.

He has been a very active member of Christ the King Cathedral Parish since 1967. He was instrumental in organizing the Eucharistic Ministers Program at CTK and remained a Eucharistic minister until the time of his death. He served on the Parish Council, School Board, Advisory Committee and Chairman of C.C.E. He was a member of Covenant Lakeside Auxillary for 20 years and served as president, where he was credited with the growth and success of the Junior Volunteers Program. He was a lone-time volunteer of Catholic Family Services, past president of Serra Club, and a secretary-treasurer of ABC Club, Caprock Chapter.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m., followed by a Prayer Vigil at Rix Funeral Directors on Broadway. The funeral will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Cathedral Church followed by burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Memorial should be made to Christ the King Cathedral School Foundation
