Directions To

Rome Cemetery is located about 7 miles from Athens,Texas in Henderson County.Take Hwy 19 South about 3 miles to FM 753.Turn right on FM 753 And go about 4 miles.Rome Cemetery will be on your left.There is a sign that says Rome Cemetery and Rome Church EST 1921.The land for the cemetery was donated by the Boyd family.Nannie Boyd was the first person layed to rest at Rome.Nannie was born July 23,1877 and died Aug 15,1921. The Cemetery is in good condition and is a country cemetery. The cemetery is active.

NOTES:
In between the graves of Andy and Nannie Boyd there is a large marker that  
lists the names of all of their children.The marker reads as follows:
"Children of Andy & Nannie Boyd"
Elbert,E.C."Tin",C.R."Mann",H.T."Bud",E.D."Dugan",Jack,J.R.,Alle,B, 
Bertha,Sally,Ora,Mary,Ila Pete.
On the marker of Irene and Simpson Rushing these names are listed.
Lani,Gloria,Katie,Paula,Lehua,Laurie,Charmayne.Those are the names 
of their children.

On the back of the marker of Henry and Martha Inmon are the names of their 
children,Henry Inmon Jr b.Sep5,1960,Madonna Jean Inmon b.Mar 7,1962,
and Douglas Guy Inmon b. May 25,1971.

On the marker for Charlie Guy and Gladys Mitchell the names of their children 
are listed with this inscription.So precious so sweet all the six of them and we 
loved them all so dearly.Jo Anna b.May 23,1932,Imogene b.Oct 26,1934,
Pauline b.Oct 26,1934,Donald Ray b.June 26,1936,Bobby Guy b.June 27,1938 
Martha Sue b.Sep 21,1940

There are three graves that are either unmarked or can not read dates.
There is one grave on the right side of the road on the 1st row all the way by 
the fence that is only marked Baby Johnston.No Dates.

One grave between Snider and Perkins can not read name or dates.
Grave next to R.D.Stone can not read names.Dates look like b.1925 d.1927.

Laura Ann Gregory Calvin and Phyllis Harris walked the cemetery on Nov 8,1999 
and wrote down all of the names of the people layed to rest at Rome and the ones 
that have markers in place.If there is no death date that means the person only has 
a marker in place at the time the cemetery was walked.Peggy Trammell Allen and 
her children re-walked the cemetery on Dec 30,1999.We did our best not to make 

any errors.If you find something that you think might not be correct or have anything 
to add or any comments please email Laura.When my time on this earth has ended I 
too,will be layed to rest at Rome Cemetery.
