Gauntt
Bros., Athens, Texas.
These
gentlemen are brothers, were born and reared in Henderson County
and all
their lives and efforts have been spent here. They are sons of
John
Gauntt who is one of the old and respected citizens of the
county.
He was
born and reared in Georgia, but came to Texas in 1851. After he
came to
Texas, he met Miss Martha Owen whom he married, she became
the mother
of 9 children and died Feby 20, 1880. The father still survives
and
resides near New York in this county. He has always been a
successful
farmer and
has enjoyed the confidence and esteem of his fellow citizens.
He is now
73 years of age, and is comfortably situated on his farm, with
whom also
his youngest son, Dee Gauntt with his family lives. J. R. Gauntt
familiarly
known as (Bob) is the 3rd child and was born December 17, 1850.

Gauntt (Robert Lee) known as country home near New York now
occupied
by the father. They were educated in the country schools at
New York
and Myrtle Springs and grew to full manhood there. On
August 31,
1882 Bob married Miss Nannie Curtis, who is a native Texan
having
been born in Smith county. They have six children and live in a
comfortable
home in Athens. On June 13, 1888 General married
Miss
Tommie Broughton of Tyler, Texas. They have 6 children and
own a
comfortable home in Athens also. They were both reared on the
farm but
years ago came to Athens and engaged in Business. Several
changes
took place during this period but three years ago they formed
a
partnership in a general merchandise business. They have
succeeded
at every
step and have grown stronger with each year.
