Athens Weekly Review
Aug. 2, 1901
L. E. Brown
Mr. Brown was born in Hickman county, Ky., April 18, 1827, but
was raised in Graves county. He came to Texas in 1859, passing
through Athens, and settled in Houston county. In 1863 he
returned to Athens and has been here ever since. He and son are
engaged in the saddlery business and their work is known from the
Sabine to the Rio Grande.
He owns good property in town and has a fine trade. Mr. Brown is
one of those men who form their own opinions and do not wait to
hear what others think about a question. We sent his photograph
to the engraver but the engraver failed to send us a cut. We
regret this.
Mr. Brown says he has always voted the democratic ticket straight
and never went off after the Goldites or populists.
