In Memory of
Charlie Marvin Sanders, Sr.
|
October 12, 1896 - October 19, 1966
WWI Army Veteran

Charlie was the son of Edward and Ellen (Hancock) Sanders. He was born in Henderson County and lived here all his life. He was a dairyman and a farmer. He married Ella Perry, about 1919 and they had three children, Perry, Mary Francis and Jim Bob (all deceased). On October 31, 1930 he married Ella Drew Hawkins. They had one son Charles Marvin Sanders, Jr. and Charles, Jr. has three step-sisters, Ruby (Hawkins) Fuller (deceased), Thelma (Hawkins) Trammell and Gladys (Hawkins) Hanks (deceased). Charles, Jr. tells the story that his father registered for the draft and was to report to Camp Bowie, but got word that there was a flu epidemic and he was to stay home until further notified. When he was again notified to report for duty, before he could get to Camp Bowie, the war ended. So he served all his time in Henderson County and was classified as a World War I Veteran.
