I descend from the Montgomery family that came to Athens, Henderson County, Texas sometime near 1886 according to Widow's Pension records filed by my great great grandmother, Azalean Stewart (Montgomery 1), (Donnell 2), (McManus 3) on her third husband, Joab McManus, Civil War record. All four of her children were in Athens with her at one time. Daughter, Sarah Ellen Montgomery and her husband, William Thomas Jenkins, with his children came to Athens. Son, James Fernander Montgomery came to Athens and purchased land for his mother and himself. He married Beulah Benton Ironie Guill in Nov. 24, 1883 and brought her with him to Athens with all their children being born in Athens. Daughter, Mary Eula Donnell married Seymour Lowe Powell in Sept. 1886 in Henderson Co., Tx. with their children being born in Athens or Henderson Co. Son, Timothy Christopher Donnell married Sidney Elizabeth Hendley in Dec. 1895 in Henderson Co., Tx. The McManus, Jenkins, Montgomery, & Powell families were all charter members of the First Christian Church of Athens.
