ROPESVILLE (Special) Services for Hollis Fowler Borland,
78, of Ropesville will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ropesville Church of Christ
with Oscar Batten and Bill McGlaun officiating.
A private burial will be in the Ropesville Cemetery under the direction of Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home.
He died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at University Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Roby. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He married Dorthy Calhoun on Aug. 30, 1941, in Lamesa. He started farming in Lamesa in 1946, then moved to the Ropesville area in 1954, where he farmed until his retirement. He was conservation farmer of the year in 1979. He was a member of the Church of Christ for 57 years, serving as an elder at the Ropesville Church of Christ for 28 years.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Glen and Royce, both of Ropesville, and Larry of Lubbock; four sisters, Berta Volger, Marie Rinewalt and Betty Miller, all of Lamesa, and Nina Acuff of Amarillo; a brother, J.D. of Lamesa; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to New Mexico Christian Children's Home, 1356 New Mexico Highway 236, Portales, N.M., 88130.
