Subject: More information (M/Sgt. Russell Wagle)

Frank,

I want to share an article I found on M/Sgt. Russell Wagle. I am uncertain where the article originated, but here is the skinny:

He assumed full control of all intercept activities of th...monitor station from October 29, 1944 to September 5, 1945 and contributed materially to the success of our operations against the enemy.

The presentation ceremony was held at HQ, Central Pacific Base Command, with Major General HT Burgin commanding General of the Central Pacific Base Command, making the presentation.

Mr. Wagle was inducted into service January of 1941, as a member of the 101st RIC, one of the first Pennsylvania National Guard unites to be called for Federal service.

After a year's training at Camp Shelby, MS, including participation in the 1941 maneuvers in Louisiana and North Carolina, Mr. Wagle was transferred to Hawaii to serve with the 130th and 119th RICs.

The more I learn, the more I understand. I notice that while with the 101st RIC, during his stay in MS, he was attached to the 3rd Army, and he had told me once that he'd either seen or had witnessed Gen. Patton crush a jeep with his tank (crush, or push aside) while on manuevers in LA, because the driver could not get the stalled jeep to restart.

How about that?
