aged 58 years. She was he wife of M. L. Garvin, one of Comos best
business men. He and his wife had resided in Como for 30 years or
more, where they had raised a large and respected family - six boys,
all of whom have fine business tact, and four daughters. The oldest
one, Mrs. Claude Lynch, died a few months ago, and one other daughter
of tender years was taken from their home by death some 20 years
ago. The funeral was held at the Baptist
church with burial in the Como cemetery. John Young, her brother,
was called to her bedside last week when she was struck speechless
with

Mt. Vernon, from the effects of an operation on locked bowels. She
had been ill only four days. She was the daughter of Capt. &
Mrs. J. T. Banister of Mt. Vernon, and had gone there to attend
the bedside of her mother who died May 7th. Her father had passed
away April 17, 1913, after a long and
painful illness. She was the wife of O. S. Hogan, our County Commissioner.
She leaves a devoted husband and three children. The remains were
shipped to Como and the funeral services were held at the Baptist

Mrs. J. T. Hyde of Dallas, and two brothers, Jot and Jim Robertson

Arkansas; a sister, Mrs. J. S. Trapp, Como, Texas; four daughters,
Mrs. Addie Lee, Commerce, Texas; Mrs. Estella Slaton, Dallas, Texas;
Mrs. Maud Pugh, Como, Texas; and Mrs. Dickie Jumper, Como, Texas.
Funeral services were held at the home of J. D. Jumper in Como.
Bro. Edd Holt of Sulphur Springs conducted the services. Burial

pioneer railway employee, died at his home in Como Sunday afternoon
after a
lingering illness of several years duration. He was 68 years old
at the time of his death, being a native of Scio, Ohio. He came
to Texas early
in life and had been an employee of the M. K. & T. Railway for
more than forty years. He was married to Miss Della McGarity, daughter
of Dr. &
Mrs. T. E. McGarity of Como, in 1900, who survives him. Funeral
services where held in the home with burial in the Como cemetery.)

Walter Lewis died at his home in Como on last Friday after a brief
illness of
pneumonia. He was one of Como s first setters and was one of the
best physicians. He was laid to rest in the Como cemetery with Masonic
honors,
Rev. York conducting the funeral service. (S.S. Gazette, Jan. 24,
1908) Resolutions of respect - He was a member of the Como Lodge
No. 834, A. F. & A. M., Como, Texas. Dr. Lewis was born in La
Grange, Georgia, in May 1839, and as a lad came to Texas with his
father, Dr. Howell Lewis, in 1852, his home being at Elysian Fields,
in Harrison county, where he grew to manhood an studied medicine
under his fathers guidance, preparatory
to attending college. His medical education was completed at Tulane
University, New Orleans, La., where he secured a diploma and at
once
returned home and commenced the practice of his profession. He was
married in 1865, to Miss Florence E. Helms of Marshall, Texas, by
whom he
had nine children, five boys and four girls; two of those boys,
Paul and Warner, and three of the girls, Miss Ann Lewis, Mrs. Sallie
Sterrit, and Mrs. Jim Harlow, are left to mourn the loss of a loving
father. Mrs. Lewis, two of the boys and one of the girls, passed
into eternity some years since. Dr. Lewis became a Mason in Reily
Springs in 1874. Dr. Lewis gave four years of arduous service to

county, died
Thursday night, Nov. 8, 1929, at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
B.E. Morris, on College Street, after a short illness, although
he had been in
declining health for several months. He was 86 years old at the
time of his death and had lived most of his life in Hopkins County.
He is survived by the following children: Mrs. B. E. Morris, Sulphur
Springs; Dr. T. E. McGarity, Como; Mrs. Fred T. Lee, California;
Gouch McGarity, Nebraska; and Jim McGarity, Houston. He is also
survived by two brothers, Dr. E. P. McGarity of Waco and Will McGarity
of Como. He was born in
Olglethorpe, Georgia, June 1843 and came to Texas in 1862, settling
in Hopkins County. He joined the ranks of the Confederate Army soon
after
coming into this state and did valiant service for the Southland
during that bloody struggle. He returned to Hopkins County again
after the war, and in the year 1870 was married to Miss Millie (sic)Page.
To this union were born nine children, four having died in early
life. After the death of his wife twelve years ago, Mr. McGarity
has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. B. E. Morris, in Sulphur
Spirngs. Since coming to Hopkins county he has lived in Cumby, Pine
Forrest and Como. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church
of Como, conducted by Reb. Lester McKinney with burial in Como cemetery.)

High School, was reported seriously ill with pneumonia Saturday.
He was
born August 19, 1862, in Arkansas. Came to Texas 56 years ago. He
was married to Miss Maud James in 1912. Funeral services were conducted
at the home by Rev. Largent of Winnsboro with interment in the Como

Neighbors
died Sat. afternoon at Pickton at the age of 78. Funeral services
and burial took place at Como, conducted by Elder Largent. She was
born near
Scottsboro, Ala., about the year 1856, and was left an orphan in
the year 1863, her father giving his life for the cause of the South.
Her mother
left them a year or so later, leaving two sons and four daughters
who grew to young manhood and womanhood in homes provided by strangers
in the
reconstructions days. Her brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
In the year 1880, she was married to Mr. Tom Neighbors. She, with
her
husband, one son and adopted daughter, came to Texas in 1890, and
spent the remainder of her life in Wood and Hopkins counties. She
joined the
Christian Church with her membership present in Como. She was 78
years and 20 days of age. She leaves a son, J. F. Neighbors.) (Hopkins
