13 Railroad Cars Derail in Celeste
(February 12, 1965, The Celeste Courier)
Thirteen cars of a 92-car Missouri-Kansas-Texas freight
train were derailed Saturday morning in Celeste causing extensive damage
to the cars and their contents.
O. C. Putsche, Superintendent of Kay's Southern
Division, did not make an estimate of the damage cost but did say, "It's
going to be expensive."
The thirteen cars jumped the tracks immediately
south of US Highway 69 in the eastern edge of Celeste. The cars contained
automobile tires, glassware, silica sand, flour, lumber, and frozen foods.
The wrecked cars were removed, damaged tracks replaced,
and made ready for regular service as early as possible.
