Dr. Eugene William Rufus Williams

Dr. Eugene William Rufus Williams, 74, of Celeste, practicing physician in Hunt County for more than fifty years and a former president of the Hunt County Medical Association, died Monday, July 7, 1941, at the home of his son, Dr. T. S. Williams, in Dallas. He had been ill for about five months.

Dr. Williams was born on September 14, 1866, in Georgia. He came to Texas when a young man and was married to Miss Annie Spaulding on October 15, 1889.

He is survived by his widow and two children, Dr. T. S. Williams of Dallas and Mrs. E. T. Fry of Greenville; two grandchildren, Miss Dorothy Fry of Greenville and Teddy Fry of Oklahoma City.

He was a devout Christian, having been a member of the Methodist Church for many years.

He was a director in the First National Bank at Celeste, Celeste ISD board member and president, and had long been a prominent civic leader.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 9, 1941, at the Methodist Church in Celeste with burial in East Mount Cemetery here.

Eugene William Rufus Williams, Celeste, Hunt County, Texas, died at 318 Beckleywood Boulevard, Dallas County, Dallas, Texas, where he had been for four months and twenty-four days at the age of seventy-four years, nine months, and twenty-three days. Cause of death was liver cancer, which he had suffered with for six months. He was a physician. He died on July 7, 1941. He was born on September 14, 1866, in LaGrange County, Georgia. His father was James B. Williams from Cardiff, Wales. His mother was from Georgia. The informant was Dr. Thomas S. Williams, 318 Beckleywood Boulevard, Dallas, Texas. His body was removed for burial to Greenville on July 7, 1941, by Stringer and Sons, Greenville, Texas.
