Geneva Roach Johnson

Funeral services for Mrs. Geneva Roach Johnson were held at 2:30 PM, Friday, September 15, 1978, in the First Baptist Church of Rankin. Burial was in the Rankin Cemetery.

"Gena," as she was known to her many friends and wide acquaintances, was seventy-four years old and died at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, September 13, 1978, in the Rankin Hospital. She had been in poor health for the past several years.

Born on September 30, 1903, in Celeste, Texas, she was married to the late L. Porter Johnson on February 7, 1925, at Greenville. He and Gena moved to Rankin in 1927 and she and her husband owned and operated the department store known as Johnson's until 1963. Mr. Johnson preceded his wife in death in June of 1973.

The Johnsons were strong supporters of progress in Rankin and were always among the first to lend support and backing to all local improvements. Gena was a loyal member of the First Baptist Church and of the Eastern Star. She continued to maintain membership and support of a number of local organization until her passing.

Survivors include three sisters, Grace Roach of Rankin, Mrs. Ted Dodson of Electra and Mrs. Estelle Rogers of Leonard; and two brothers, J. Garland Roach of Greenville and James F. Roach of San Antonio.

Pallbearers were Leslie McFadden, Paul Tharp, Johnnie Hurst, Johnny Kidd, Tommy Clint Owens, and Joe Garner Loftin.
